A Royal Treat

I vividly recall July 29, 1981, the day Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles at London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral. July 29 tends to be special to me anyway, because that’s my birthday, but it was even more so on this occasion. I turned eight years old that day—and my celebration began by watching the royal wedding with my mother.

As a young girl, I found the whole affair captivating. It’s one of those indelible memories etched in my mind, so I admit I’ve been looking forward to today’s wedding ceremony between Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Although I didn’t set my alarm for 4 a.m. to watch the pageantry live, I do have it all recorded on DVR. I will wait for the perfect time to settle in with a cup of tea and watch with my children, who will no doubt relish the chance to see a real live princess.

Just as I did some 30 years ago.

What about you? Were you looking forward to this morning’s wedding? Did you watch? I’d love to hear how you marked this moment in history.
