Looking for a Good Book?

I received three books from one of my daughters for Christmas. My daughters always know that if they can’t think of anything else, books are a sure winner, as I am a book worm. I usually prefer staying home and reading to most social activities. I jokingly asked my husband if he thought it would be rude to bring my current book along to a casual dinner party last weekend. My daughters have this inclination as well. I remember one of my daughters reading Nancy Drew in the grocery store checkout line.

Anyway, back to my three Christmas gifts. The first two books I read were The Outliers and Sarah’s Key. The third, and best in my opinion, is the one I am currently reading, Cutting For Stone. I recently found out that the author, Abraham Verghese, is an Iowa grad and participant in the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Verghese tells the story of twin brothers born in 1954 in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. They grow up as Ethiopia is on the verge of a revolution. I would recommend it to read or as a gift. After all, Mother’s Day is just around the corner.

Verghese has written a few other books that are now on my “to-read” list including My Own Country and The Tennis Partner.

Happy reading!
