Yellow Submarine

Remember the Beatles’ lyrics for one of their hit songs, “Yellow Submarine?” I haven’t been able to get the song out of my mind since a UI Foundation colleague shared a wonderful photo of a bubble sub he went underwater in while on a recent trip to the Bahamas. He and his wife enjoyed an underwater adventure with an unobstructed view of marine life thanks to the bubble sub!

The University of Iowa’s spring break starts this weekend. Students across campus and in the alumni association have been sharing their spring break plans. Many are heading to warmer climates for fun in the sun, while others are going home for a bit of rest, relaxation, and a week’s worth of home-cooked meals.

I’ve been imagining what it would be like to glide through the gorgeous blue-green waters off an island in the Bahamas in a yellow bubble sub and watch sea life drift by. Daydreaming about white sandy beaches and warm weather helps ease the longing to be a student again and have that carefree week away from papers, tests, and jobs.

So all you spring breakers out there, enjoy your time off, be safe, and enjoy your “yellow submarines”—whether you’re dry docked at home, or in an exotic locale and underwater in a bubble sub!
