Iowa Alumni Magazine receives prestigious award

In Iowa Alumni Magazine’s December 2015 issue, senior associate editor Shelbi Thomas told the fascinating story of a group of “underground astronauts”—including one UI alumna—who burrowed into the depths of Africa to make a breakthrough scientific discovery.

The feature, titled “Rising Stars of Anthropology,“ was recognized this week with a prestigious Circle of Excellence award from CASE, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Magazines from universities and colleges around the country submitted more than 200 entries in the “Best Feature Writing” category. Judges called Thomas’ writing “superior on all counts.”

Read the riveting piece, which received a national CASE bronze award, here. And join the UIAA to receive our award-winning magazine.
