Around campus

Willard “Sandy” Boyd once said, “People, not structures, make a great university.” Perhaps no one over the past 60 years has made the UI greater than the former president himself. Watch this video of the president emeritus in which he explains why the UI is a special institution, then check out the video from Boyd’s retirement celebration earlier this month.

Willard “Sandy” Boyd is pictured in his office at the University of Iowa College of Law in the 1950s. Boyd, who went on to become UI’s 15th president, was honored at a retirement reception earlier this month. Photo courtesy UI Special Collections’ Fred Kent Collection.
