Dodging for Dreams and Glory

On Sunday, April 28, a collection of UI students sauntered down Kinnick Stadium’s south bleachers and onto Iowa’s most illustrious playing surface. Unlike the football team that held its annual Spring Game a day earlier, these competitors weren’t here to catch balls—they were here to dodge them.

This past Sunday, the University of Iowa Alumni Association’s student organization, Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.), held their second annual dodgeball tournament at Kinnick Stadium to raise money for Dance Marathon and the UI Children’s Hospital. In addition to the double elimination tournament, teams were treated to a tour of Kinnick Stadium’s locker rooms, a turn in the Hills Bank Cash Cube, a chance to meet Herky, and an impromptu dance contest. Though only one team could claim the 2013 S.T.A.T. Dodgeball Tournament title, we think that everyone who participated in this event and helped make it possible can be considered a winner.

Thanks again to Hills Bank, Kaplan, and Best Buy for sponsoring this event. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
