There’s No “Brrrr” in Bare

On Saturday, March 10, nearly 200 UI students and community members shed nearly all their clothes to benefit Iowa City’s United Action for Youth. Despite the constant rain and near-freezing temperatures, participants came out in force for the fifth annual Nearly Naked Mile at Gibson Square on the UI campus. Sponsored by the UIAA’s S.T.A.T. Ambassadors, the event asks participants to donate clothing—some of it right off their backs—before the race.

This year, the Ambassadors collected about 1,100 clothing items to support children and adolescents in need. The temperature stayed low but enthusiasm ran high as runners alternated between snapping photos and huddling together for warmth. Several teams and clubs participated in this event including the UI men’s tack club, West Music, and others. We’re grateful to everyone for the dedication and help that make this event possible—and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
