A Floating Enterprise

Several weeks ago, when Homecoming 2012 plans began to formulate, the UIAA’s S.T.A.T. Ambassadors decided to create a parade float on behalf of the UIAA. The idea was to give a visual representation of how the alumni association connects graduates back to campus, no matter where they live. We located a model of the Old Capitol created several years ago by UI friend and design artist Jerry Best.

After refurbishing the model, the students then worked on how to illustrate the many geographic regions that connect back to the UI. We fashioned cut-out states and attached them with gold rope to our Old Capitol to represent the binding ties of UI affiliation. No matter where our alumni land in their lives, the UIAA can return them to campus—whether through our blogs and other social media posts, our fantastic network of IOWA Clubs, or through the pages of Iowa Alumni Magazine.

Our first float in several years turned out really well—and we’re looking forward to many more years of inspiring entries. We hope you enjoy the photos of our students in action.
