Tuesday Trivia Answer: July 17, 2012

The answer to this week’s trivia question (“Which UI building does this Hawk call home?”) is: the Field House.

Opened in 1927, the University of Iowa Field House has seen countless events take place within its walls. During basketball games, Iowa fans could feel the building shake with excitement. The wrestling and swimming programs also had great runs of success while housed in the facility.

With future expansion of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in the cards, the Field House’s days are numbered—as current plans call for it to be torn down to make room for new UI Hospitals and Clinics facilities. We hope they move the Hawk to a new location, and thank the building and students that inhabited it for the rich Hawkeye history created through the years.

Check back next week for another chance to participate and win!

As a PE major, participant & official in intramurals, and fan of the gymnastics and swimming meets, I will miss the Fieldhouse. What a great facility for so many years. The west side of campus won’t be the same without it.
