Tuesday Trivia Answer: July 10, 2012

The answer to this week’s trivia question (“What former UI art professor painted these famous works?”) is: Grant Wood.

Grant Wood was a faculty member at the University of Iowa School of Art From 1934 until his death in 1942 at age 50. Born in Anamosa, he studied art in both America and Europe, eventually adopting a Realism-influenced style seen in his most famous work—American Gothic. The depiction of Midwest life was completed in 1930, a mere four years before Wood accepted his position at the UI. 70 years after his passing, Wood’s work still makes an impression, with thousands experiencing the Grant Wood Scenic Byway, American Gothic House Center, and various art exhibitions nationwide each year.
