Hawkeye History: December 20, 1996

The Iowa football team geared up to play Texas Tech in the 1996 Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. On Dec. 29, the Iowa squad pulled out a dominating 27-0 win over Texas Tech.

Did you know?

-       The 1996 Sun Bowl marked Iowa’s 15th bowl appearance – the 13th under head coach Hayden Fry.

-       The Macarena was the current dance craze.

-       Friends, Seinfeld, and the Garfield Christmas Special were the evening’s prime time television highlights.

    I was in the nosebleed section and would have had a better view watching on TV, but the second the ball was kicked off, the roar of the crowd was deafening and you just can’t get that at home! :-)
