Running Bare Because They Care

Brisk weather didn’t slow the nearly 75 students who took part in the Future Alumni Network’s Nearly Naked Mile on April 1. The annual event marked its ninth year this spring.

Participants were not required to be “nearly naked” to run, but they were asked to donate at least one piece of clothing to United Action for Youth.

The event began at 10 a.m. at Gibson Square, near the UI Main Library.

Conditions weren’t exactly balmy, with the temperature sitting in the 40s for much of the morning.

For those wanting to stay warmer, the event encouraged people to participate in costume.

The event was hosted by the UIAA’s student group, the Future Alumni Network.

Coffee and hot chocolate were served to help runners stay warm.

All told, the runners donated about 10 garbage bags full of clothing to United Action for Youth. The Iowa City organization will distribute the items at its spring clothing drive.
