Cleaning Out the Cobwebs

Sportscasters often use the phrase, “having their bell rung,” after witnessing an athlete take a jolt to the head. But what do those words really mean? Thanks to recent stories regarding concussions and their long-lasting side effects, the public is well-aware about the dangers of head injuries. However, it is less informed about the research underway to better understand, evaluate, and treat them.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, Christopher Hogrefe, 08MD, UI assistant professor of emergency medicine and primary care sports medicine, will host an interactive discussion as part of the UIAA’s Lifelong Learning program about concussions. During his presentation, Hogrefe will explain what a concussion is, how doctors treat them, and health consequences associated with this common head injury.

We hope you’ll join us for this insightful discussion. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Deadline to register is noon on Friday, Feb. 21.
