Hawkeye Homecoming Centennial

The game of football had seen some significant changes just before the first Homecoming contest was held against Wisconsin on November 23, 1912. The length of the field was changed from 110 yards with no end zones to 100 yards plus two 10-yard end zones. In addition, teams now had four downs to advance the ball instead of three, and a 20-yard limit on passes was lifted. Even though the Hawkeyes lost the inaugural game, subsequent teams have taken Iowa’s overall record to 54-40-5.

The Homecoming Council and University of Iowa Alumni Association have been planning some great events for this year’s centennial celebration. We hope you can join us in Iowa City this fall, but if you’re unable to make it, we’ll be covering the week’s events right here on our blog. Check out the links below for more information on all the activities!
