From Haiti to the UIHC

Christopher Buresh, 01MD, 06R, and his wife, Ginny Ryan, 03R, recently arranged to bring a four-month-old baby from Haiti to Iowa City for specialized surgery.

Buresh said Haitian hospitals have a 100 percent mortality rate performing the procedure to correct a lower digestive tract birth defect, so he and his wife worked to cut through bureaucratic red tape to have the surgery done here.

Two years ago, Iowa Alumni Magazine profiled Buresh when he traveled with a medical team to assist victims of the catastrophic Haitian earthquakes. “Iowans have been amazing in the way they’ve responded to this disaster,” he says, “and it makes me proud to live here.”

Check out these articles about Buresh below, which are open to everyone for a limited time.
