Middle Class Crisis Examined

Prior to the major recession in 2008, the economic vigor of the United States was unprecedented—but an illusion of growing collective wealth hid a long-term crisis confronting the American middle class, a crisis exacerbated by the recent financial downturn.

UI professor Kevin Leicht, chair of the sociology department and director of the Iowa Social Science Research Center, will examine the clues to this crisis and discuss the current recession’s implications for the future of the middle class.

Please join us on April 24 at the the John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center in Des Moines for this event, which is free and open to the public. Please register by noon on April 19 here.
