Hawkeye History: March 06, 1994

The Iowa wrestling squad won its 21st consecutive Big Ten title, giving Dan Gable’s team the longest winning streak for any sport in conference history. The Hawkeyes went on to finish 11-3-0 and only improved the next season, winning the Big Ten championships again in addition to the NCAA team title.

Did you know?

-       The just-released film “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” featured rising stars Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio as brothers in a small Iowa town.

-       Cellular phones were available to rent for $6 a day.

-       Reebok expanded its line of Pump sneakers to include a laceless version.
