Hawkeye History: January 09, 1975

The UI sponsored a car pool matching service for commuter students. Some on campus appreciated the opportunity to save on rising gas costs, while others used the special permits to register a second car and get a better parking spot.

Did you know?

- The national speed limit was 55 mph to reduce the country’s oil consumption.
- The bar in the Iowa Memorial Union served around 1,000 patrons on an average weekend.

    That was pretty uncool to do that, parking is so hard to come by here!
