Hawkeye History: January 30, 1975

A group of students from the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity “kidnapped” Iowa City mayor Edgar Czarnecki and held him ransom for 5,000 cans of food to benefit Johnson County Social Services. Some observers panicked at the scene, but were assured that it was all in good fun.

Busy month ahead for former Hawk Yanda

Continuing the tradition of Iowa football players succeeding in the NFL, Baltimore Ravens offensive guard Marshal Yanda will play in the AFC Championship game this Sunday for a shot at the Super Bowl. He’s also the first Ravens guard ever to be selected for the 2012 Pro Bowl, scheduled for Jan. 29 in Hawaii.
