Roman Holiday

This weekend, my family is traveling to Rome…without packing a bag! In reality, we are planning a trip to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art to see the installation titled Art in Roman Life. In 1996, Nan Riley, 67BA, 71MA, 81MFA, and her late husband, Tom Riley, 50BA, 52JD, donated 21 Roman portrait busts to the museum’s permanent collection. These busts are displayed alongside other Roman artifacts—some of which are on loan from the University of Iowa’s classics department. Even though my children will not stroll down cobblestone streets or marvel at the iconic Colosseum, they will have the opportunity to learn more about the everyday lives of Romans living from the 1st century B.C. through the fall of the Roman Empire.

If you’d like to visit Rome, you can pack your bags and join the Iowa Voyagers on an Italian Journey from Rome to Tuscany from March 23 through 31, 2012. Contact our office at 800/469-2586 to learn more, or visit our website at wordpress.iowalum.com/voyagers.

Viaggia felice!
