Hawkeyes by the Numbers

Evidently, I have some way to go before I can officially claim to be a Hawkeye. In fact, I have 30 things to go—and do.

In the August issue of Iowa Alumni Magazine, we ran an article highlighting the extremely fun “47 Things You Should Do at Iowa.” Originally conceived as a way to help new students explore and connect with the UI campus and traditions, “47 Things” throws down an irresistible challenge for alumni and friends, too. Some of the items on the list are fairly easy—feed the ducks at the IMU, live in a residence hall, or study (or take a nap) on the Pentacrest. Others require more work: study abroad, attend a Hawkeye sporting event other than football, or visit the Raptor Center at Lake Macbride.

A poll of my magazine coworkers revealed that I’m lagging far behind; in fact, I can only check off 17 items on the list. Art Director LeaAnn Henry leads with 32 items, followed closely by Associate Editor Shelbi Thomas, who accomplished 30 tasks.

How many have you done? Check out the list (www.uiowa.edu/~success/documents/47thing-85×11.pdf), then send me your tally—and your stories about how you accomplished these essential Hawkeye activities.
