You’re Invited to Our Voyagers Anniversary Party

I’m amazed at how quickly time passes. In preparing for the UIAA’s Iowa Voyagers 50th anniversary celebration, I realized that I’ve been managing this program for half of its life – 25 years! But it’s always been an interesting and pleasant duty; there’s never a dull moment in the world of travel. I wish to extend my personal thanks to…

Farewell to Students

Each spring, we say good-bye to the thousands of students who are here for the school year and go home or somewhere else for the summer. We always celebrate a little when they are gone, because it means more parking spaces will be available, shorter waits at downtown eateries, and the crazy intensity of the academic year comes to an…

A Flood of Support

The images on the news of floodwaters gushing through the South bring back memories of the devastation caused by the Flood of 2008. Three years later, Iowa City and many other communities are still in the process of rebuilding. Yet that hasn’t stopped Iowans from helping their Southern neighbors in need.

The UI has lent flood barriers to communities at risk…

Signs of Spring

I know, I know, another post about the weather. But here in Iowa, it’s a hot topic—or not-so-hot, I should say—because spring so far has been quite damp and chilly. Iowa weather keeps us guessing. Weekend Study Session

On Saturday and Sunday, most staff here at the UIAA will be working a few extra hours. Each semester we host our S.T.A.T. members the week before final exams. We provide snacks, meals, study space, computers, and a nice, big, airy room with lots of windows for studying.

We are glad to do this for our S.T.A.T members, because, like their…

Ladies: Interested in Football?

I have to admit, when I first started working at the University of Iowa Alumni Association, I was clueless when it came to football. Growing up with two brothers and a father who were OBSESSED with sports, including the Hawkeyes, sort of led me in the opposite direction. After I stepped onto campus, it didn’t take long for me to…
