Hamburger U: Who Knew?

Last Thursday, nearly 75 University of Iowa alumni and friends joined UI President Sally Mason and several university administrators and staff members for an all-alumni reception and program in Oakbrook, Illinois. The venue? Hamburger University!

Oakbrook is home to the McDonald’s Corporation’s headquarters—and Hamburger University, “the company’s global center of excellence for McDonald’s operations training and leadership development.”  According to, Hamburger University’s first class of 15 students graduated on February 24, 1961. Since then, more than 80,000 restaurant managers, mid-managers, and owners/operators have graduated, and each year, more than 5,000 students attend Hamburger University.

Just a few items to remember next time you visit the golden arches!
