A Job Well Done

It is Monday at the UI Alumni Association, and the picture above tells you what I did this past weekend and how some people truly love their jobs.

I had so much fun at the Big Ten Wrestling Championships held at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Wow, what a great event with so many extremely skilled athletes competing at the highest level. Even though the Hawks placed second in a tight race, the UIAA is very proud and we wish them the best of luck as they head to Philadelphia March 17-19 for the NCAA Championships.

Back to the guys above, sometimes it was more fun to watch the Iowa coaches do their jobs during a match than the match itself. I have never seen more enthusiasm, loyalty, desire, heart, and passion displayed while “on the clock.” It is hard to explain and definitely something you’ve got to see. Every time an Iowa wrestler takes the mat, there are two guys in their corner working to make them the best they can be. And to think they get paid for doing something they love. This photo says more than I can ever say about the spirit of Iowa wrestling—it is alive and well.

So, great job Hawkeye wrestlers, and if you wonder why Iowa has such a successful wrestling program, it is because of those who lead the way. Outstanding work, coaches—keep it up and good luck in Philly.
