My Miss List

On our new University of Iowa Alumni Association fan page, we recently asked you, “What do you miss most about your time as a student at the University of Iowa?” Hawkeyes fondly remember basking in the sun on the Pentacrest, sitting in on their favorite professors’ lectures, and even the Belgian waffle machine at Burge (which imprints a Tigerhawk on your breakfast!).

As for me, I miss:

  • Ordering Pokey Stix in the dorms on Tuesday nights
  • Spontaneous late-night walks by the river
  • Making exciting connections between the material I was learning in different classes
  • Hiking over to Hillcrest for ice cream twist cones
  • Being amused by some of the zany and unexpected things I’d see around town
  • Student discounts on Hancher tickets
  • The excitement of the first week back on campus
  • Making my own schedule (including no class on Fridays!)
  • Learning from the best
  • Living just down the hall from my friends—and making new friends every day!
  • Spending time in such beautiful and historic buildings
  • The close-knit community in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, including helpful student organizations and encouraging mentors
  • The endless possibilities for summers, including internships and studying abroad

One thing I do not miss? The 2 a.m. fire alarms at Currier on cold winter nights. I may enjoy reminiscing about the past, but my nostalgia ends there!
