Sorry, Mr. Izzo

I was so happy for the Hawkeyes last night I wanted to cry. Being at the bottom in the Big Ten standings didn’t stand in their way last night. I kept waiting for the time during the second half when you hold your breath and see the lead dwindle. It has happened so many times this year, and that time did come midway through the second half last night when the lead was cut from 26 to17. But last night, the stars were aligned for the Hawkeyes in Iowa City!

It was so refreshing to see the bench up and excited. A few weeks ago, it was depressing to see a shot of the bench showing one of the players yawning! Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said focus, concentration, and tremendous effort were key to the win last night.

Congratulations to Matt Gatens, who passed the 1,000-point career mark last night. Eric May had an excellent game, including a breakaway slam dunk. I loved it when the announcer would bellow “May Day” when May scored.

Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo said he thought it was the worst performance by a team he’s coached since he’s been at Michigan State. We’re sorry, Mr. Izzo.
