46 More Days

I’m not going to lie…I’ve been counting down the days until that official first day of spring for awhile, although it in no way guarantees that our world will all be green, sunshine, and tulip-filled by March 20th. I’ve come to appreciate the four seasons of the Midwest, but by this time each year, I’m ready to pack away my sweaters, snow boots, and myriad of winter clothing that gets applied before walking out the door each day.

Of course, it just wouldn’t make those 46 days left of winter quite as sweet without the recent plummeting of snow we received this week. If I don’t have to drive in the weather (I commute to Iowa City from Rock Island, Illinois, each day), I’m completely okay with it, so staying home yesterday and marveling at how much was dumped and blown on us was amusing. What really got me, though, was how much the “Blizzard of 2011” or “Snowmaggedon” or “SnOMG” brought people together. Neighbors were waving, talking, and commiserating together yesterday as they attempted to dig out. If someone needed help, neighbors where there with a smile…and the one with a snowplow on his truck is a saint and definitely the most popular resident on the cul-de-sac. Usually, everyone stays indoors during this time of year, and it was nice to see what our neighbors looked like all bundled-up and rosy-cheeked.

Soon, all the mountains around us will be melted. It’s amazing, and we’re lucky to be able to see what Mother Nature can do smack dab in the middle of winter. This week has undoubtedly provided many memories for students, staff, and alumni of the University of Iowa. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm and enjoying this while it lasts…which, again, is only 46 more days.

    Dear Alumni,

If you would like to purchase an official Team Iowa cycling jersey, our fundraiser is through our sponsor’s website, Curve Inc.

Please feel free to pass this on to any friends/ family that you think would be interested. Also, the jersey makes a great gift!

It’s amazing to think about where the Hawkeye colors ride. I recently received an email from a cyclist in Israel requesting a jersey!

Show your pride, whether it be internatinoally or on RAGBRAI 2011– which will be stoping through Coralville!

Team Iowa, The University of Iowa Cycling Club
