Be Oscar-Ready

The nominations for the 2011 Oscars were announced this morning, and unsurprisingly, I have only seen three of the ten films up for best motion picture (Toy Story 3, Inception, and The Social Network). I probably wouldn’t have seen Toy Story 3 if it weren’t for a Homecoming event this past fall, which offered a free screening of the movie in MacBride Auditorium.

If you have as bad a record of seeing good movies as I do, don’t fret. The UI has a few opportunities for you to watch some of the nominated films at a discounted rate. The Campus Activities Board will host The Social Network in the IMU’s Illinois Room at 10 p.m. on January 27-29 for $2, and the Bijou Theater will screen the Oscar Shorts: Animated and Live Action throughout the month of February. In the past, the Bijou has also thrown an Oscar watching party, so stay tuned to see if it will happen again on February 27, Hollywood’s biggest night.
