Goin’ Bowlin’

At their meeting yesterday, the state Board of Regents guaranteed the Iowa Memorial Union’s ground floor would come back better than ever.

For the past two years, I’ve missed going to the IMU to browse the University Book Store, order a cup of hot chocolate from the Java House, and have lunch at Pizza Hut. Students certainly didn’t have much time…

All Aboard!

I read with interest yesterday that there will soon be passenger train service between Iowa City and Chicago. The plan for a new Amtrak route between the two cities (with a stop in Moline) received a major funding boost on Monday with a $230 million federal grant to establish this new service. Officials say the journey will take less than…

Hawkeye-Style Halloween

Want to be scared this Halloween? Dare to watch some horror movies written by two Iowa alumni. I wrote about Marcus Dunstan, 98BA, and Patrick Melton, 97BA, earlier this year in Iowa Alumni Magazine, but now’s the best time to check out their spooky films, which include Feast, The Collector, and Saw IV, V, and VI. Their latest, Saw…

Mmmmm Mmmmm Good!

Thirty-four IOWA Club volunteers were in Iowa City this past Friday for our annual IOWA Club Leader Workshop. UI and association staff provided updates regarding several IOWA Club items of interest, but the highlight of the day was lunch—award-winning BBQ prepared and served up by members of the Memphis IOWA Club.

On, Iowa!

For the Love of Norm

Yesterday, an e-mail appeared in my inbox that made me—yet again—grateful and proud to be living in the Hawkeye State.

It was a UI athletics press release with details of a remarkable effort that totally captures the warmth and camaraderie of Iowans. For tomorrow’s game against Wisconsin, the athletics department is asking fans to yell “Norm!” whenever the Badgers’ offensive team…
